How Much Wastage to Allow

Straight-laid laminate or LVT: 5%. Diagonal or herringbone patterns: 10–15%. Carpet: 5–10% depending on room shape and pattern repeat. Tiles: 10%. Complex rooms with alcoves, bays and chimney breasts need the higher end.

Measuring Awkward Rooms

Split L-shaped rooms into rectangles, calculate each, and add them. For bay windows, treat the bay as a rectangle at its widest point — over-ordering slightly is far cheaper than a second delivery and a batch mismatch.
