Common UK Conversions

The UK uses a famously mixed system — miles for roads, litres for fuel, stones for body weight, °C for weather, and pints for beer and milk. Here are the conversions everyone needs:

• 1 mile = 1.609 km · 1 km = 0.621 miles
• 1 stone = 6.35 kg = 14 lbs
• 1 litre = 0.22 UK gallons = 1.76 UK pints
• °F = °C × 9/5 + 32
• 1 inch = 2.54 cm · 1 foot = 30.48 cm

UK vs US Units

Note that UK (imperial) and US measures differ: a UK gallon is 4.546 litres but a US gallon is only 3.785 litres. A UK pint is 568ml versus the US pint at 473ml — important when following American recipes.
