Statutory Holiday Entitlement Explained
Almost all UK workers are legally entitled to 5.6 weeks of paid holiday per year โ for a 5-day-a-week worker that's 28 days (which may include the 8 bank holidays). Part-timers get the same 5.6 weeks pro rata: 3 days/week ร 5.6 = 16.8 days.
Mid-Year Starters
Entitlement accrues monthly from your start date โ starting halfway through the leave year gives you half the annual entitlement for that year. Employers may round up (never down) to the nearest half day.
Irregular Hours & Zero-Hours Workers
Since April 2024, holiday for irregular-hours workers accrues at 12.07% of hours worked in each pay period, and rolled-up holiday pay (12.07% added to each payslip) is lawful for these workers.
